A recent Gallup survey analyzed the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in workplaces in the United States, highlighting growth but also significant fragmentation.

Sector Adoption

The sectors driving AI adoption are technology, finance, and professional services. Over 75% of IT workers report using AI "at least a few times a year." In finance and professional services, the percentage is just under 60%. AI seems to integrate more easily into roles that involve digital workflows and information synthesis.

AI usage is less common in sectors characterized by direct customer interaction or manual activities. Only one-third of retail workers report usage levels comparable to those of their office colleagues. Healthcare and manufacturing show slightly higher adoption than retail.

Awareness and Uncertainty

An interesting finding from the survey is that nearly a quarter of workers do not know if their company has adopted AI solutions. In the third quarter of 2025, just over a third of employees said their organization had implemented AI, while 40% denied such adoption.

Employees in non-managerial, part-time, or operational roles are more likely to report being unaware of AI usage in their company. It seems that distance from decision-making processes influences awareness.

Usage Methods

The ways AI is used remain consistent: consolidating information, searching for information, and generating ideas are the most common applications. Over 60% of AI users use chatbots, while usage for writing and editing is less common. Programming assistants and data science tools remain niche but popular among those who frequently use AI.

Despite overall growth, Gallup concludes that AI is not yet integrated into the daily work of most Americans. Approximately 45% of workers say they use AI "a few times a year," but only 10% use it daily.
