Google began integrating Gemini into its Chrome browser several months ago, and now the AI is expanding its capabilities considerably. The main addition is an autonomous browsing agent called "Auto Browse", designed to handle tedious tasks within the browser.

Gemini Integration in Chrome

The newly unveiled Gemini features are accessible from the AI button located at the top of the Chrome window. Initially, this button opened Gemini in a pop-up window, but Google has now defaulted to a split-screen or "Sidepanel" view. This update is being rolled out.

Expanded Functionality

The split-screen view gives Gemini more room to operate when interacting with web pages. The chatbot can now access Gmail, Calendar, YouTube, Maps, Google Shopping, and Google Flights directly from Chrome. This feature was technically added in mid-January, but Google is only talking about it now.
