Davos turns techy: AI dominates the 2024 edition
The recent World Economic Forum in Davos marked a turning point, with artificial intelligence (AI) firmly at center stage. This year's edition stood out for the massive presence of AI industry leaders, who transformed the traditional forum into a true tech conference.
AI CEOs take the lead
The leaders of tech companies, including Meta and Salesforce, literally took over Davos, with showcases and dedicated spaces along the main promenade. But beyond the physical presence, it was the centrality of the AI theme that struck. CEOs did not hesitate to publicly express their opinions, addressing sensitive issues such as trade policies and the potential risks associated with AI.
A paradigm shift
The attention given to AI ended up overshadowing topics traditionally at the center of the Davos debate, such as climate change and global poverty. This shift reflects the growing awareness of the transformative impact that AI will have on the economy, society and politics globally. The 2024 edition of the World Economic Forum confirmed that AI is no longer just a topic for specialists, but a central issue for the future of the world.
