The Octopus Analogy for Edge AI
Richard J. Simoncic, Chief Operating Officer at Microchip, has proposed an interesting analogy to describe the architecture of edge AI: the octopus. The idea is that, just as the octopus has a nervous system distributed throughout its body, edge AI can benefit from a decentralized architecture.
Advantages of a Distributed Architecture
A distributed architecture in edge AI offers several advantages. First, it can reduce latency, as processing takes place closer to the data source. Second, it can improve resilience, as the system can continue to function even if some nodes fail. This approach is particularly useful for complex AI applications that require fast response times and high reliability.
