Go embraces generic methods
The Go language, known for its simplicity and performance, has taken a significant step towards greater flexibility with the approval of generic methods. This decision represents a reversal of the position previously expressed in the language's official FAQ.
Griesemer's proposal
The proposal to implement generic methods was presented by Robert Griesemer, one of the co-designers of Go. The approval marks the transition to the actual implementation phase, which will lead to the introduction of this new feature in future versions of the language.
Other priorities for developers
Despite the importance of this novelty, surveys among Go developers highlight how there are other areas for improvement considered more urgent by the community. It remains to be seen whether the introduction of generic methods will meet expectations and significantly improve the development experience with Go.
