Google Photos: a step back on AI
Google has intensified the integration of its Gemini models into various products, including search within Google Photos. This push towards AI, however, has not been positively received by all users.
Back to the origins
Following user feedback, Google has decided to reintroduce the ability to use classic search in Google Photos. Shimrit Ben-Yair, head of Google Photos, confirmed that a simple toggle will be added to switch to the traditional, non-Gemini-based search mode.
The importance of traditional search
The traditional Google Photos search represented a significant breakthrough, allowing users to quickly find specific photos simply by searching for elements within the images. This system, a precursor to the current focus on generative systems, had become a benchmark for many users.
