KDE Plasma 6.6: focus on flexibility and BSD support
The new version of the KDE desktop environment, Plasma 6.6, has been released. Among the main new features, the commitment not to make systemd a mandatory requirement stands out. This choice underlines KDE's desire to offer flexibility to users and to support different system architectures.
Another relevant aspect is the improved support for OpenBSD. In addition, the FreeBSD 15.1 installer now includes KDE as a desktop environment option, expanding the possibilities for users of this operating system.
The decision to keep systemd as an optional component continues to be the subject of discussion within the community, with arguments for and against its mandatory adoption.
