LibreOffice embraces Markdown
LibreOffice has announced the introduction of native Markdown support starting with version 26.2. This new feature will allow users to import and export documents in CommonMark format directly within Writer, the suite's word processor.
Benefits of Markdown support
The integration of Markdown into LibreOffice represents a step forward in compatibility and flexibility. Markdown, a lightweight markup language, is widely used for creating plain text documents, particularly appreciated for its simplicity and portability. Native support in LibreOffice could make Markdown a more viable choice for a wider audience.
General context
Markdown was born over 20 years ago and has since become a de facto standard for writing documentation, notes, and web content. Its intuitive syntax and its ability to be easily converted to HTML make it a valuable tool for anyone working with text.
