Optimizing Swap Memory in Linux
Kairui Song of Tencent has proposed a series of patches for the Linux kernel focused on optimizing swap memory management. The main goal is to reduce overall memory usage and, at the same time, slightly improve system performance.
The patches directly intervene on the kernel's swap code, implementing new strategies for allocating and deallocating memory pages. These changes are expected to lead to a smaller memory footprint, freeing up valuable resources for other applications and processes.
Although the specific details of the implementations have not yet been fully disclosed, initial tests indicate a positive impact on performance, with slightly faster response times under certain load conditions. Further developments and benchmarks are expected in the coming weeks.
