Samsung focuses on HBM4 for AI
Samsung is preparing to become a key supplier of HBM4 memory for OpenAI, according to industry sources. This strategic agreement underscores the growing importance of high-bandwidth memory (HBM) for artificial intelligence applications, particularly for training and inference of large language models (LLM).
The demand for HBM is growing rapidly, driven by the increasingly high computational needs of AI models. HBMs offer significantly higher bandwidth than traditional memories, enabling faster data transfer and, consequently, better performance in AI workloads.
To meet this demand, Samsung is reportedly reorganizing its production capacity, allocating additional resources to HBM4 production. This move highlights the company's commitment to the AI sector and its willingness to compete with other memory manufacturers such as SK Hynix and Micron.
