Taiwan Anticipates US Trade Investigations
Following a recent ruling by the US Supreme Court, Taiwan is preparing to face potential investigations under Section 301. These investigations, which can lead to trade sanctions, represent a challenge for the Taiwanese economy.
The Taiwanese government has stated its intention to use existing trade agreements with the United States to cushion the impact of any punitive measures. The strategy aims to protect local industries and maintain economic stability.
Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974 authorizes the President of the United States to impose tariffs or other trade restrictions on countries that violate trade agreements or adopt trade practices deemed unfair. Investigations can be initiated by the US government or in response to complaints filed by American companies.
