A new online tool, called EpsteIn, allows users to scan their LinkedIn contacts for any mentions in the recently released Epstein files.
How EpsteIn Works
The tool, whose code is available on GitHub, analyzes the unsealed documents related to the investigations into Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. It then generates a report indicating the name, company, position, and number of mentions for each LinkedIn contact found in the documents, with contextual excerpts and links to the original sources on the US Department of Justice website.
Potential False Positives
The developers warn that, due to name similarities, the tool may generate false positives. It is therefore necessary to verify the context of the mentions to ascertain their relevance. During testing, several misleading results were found due to common names.
The Context of the Epstein Documents
The Department of Justice recently released 3.5 million pages of documents related to the Epstein investigations, including videos, images, and audio recordings. The publication has raised controversy, as it also included unredacted images of women and girls.
Among the people mentioned in the documents are also prominent figures in the tech world, such as Peter Thiel, Larry Page, and Sergey Brin. The mere mention does not necessarily imply involvement in illegal activities, but the presence of these names has nevertheless aroused interest and speculation.
