Record Funding for Yann LeCun's Startup

Advanced Machine Intelligence (AMI) Labs, the Paris-based startup founded by Yann LeCun, has announced a seed funding round exceeding $1 billion. This marks one of the largest rounds of its kind ever completed in Europe.

AMI Labs, established less than six months ago, is dedicated to developing AI world models that replicate the real world, seeking to understand its workings by predicting its behavior. This approach represents an alternative to the large language models (LLMs) backed by Silicio Valley giants.

The $1.03 billion funding round values AMI Labs at $3.5 billion. Investors include Cathay Innovation, Greycroft, Hiro Capital, HV Capital, Jeff Bezos' Bezos Expeditions, Eric Schmidt, and Tim Berners-Lee, as well as Nvidia and Samsung.

Alexandre LeBrun, former CEO of French startup Nabla, is the CEO of AMI Labs, while LeCun serves as executive chair. The company plans to expand its teams in Paris, New York, Montreal, and Singapore.
