Alarm over ChatGPT's "Adult Mode"

OpenAI advisors have expressed serious concerns regarding the launch of ChatGPT's "adult mode," a text-based feature designed for explicit conversations.

According to The Wall Street Journal, members of OpenAI's council of experts, tasked with evaluating well-being and AI, have voiced significant fears regarding this initiative. Back in January, they unanimously warned that AI-powered erotica could generate an unhealthy emotional dependence on ChatGPT, especially among the most vulnerable users. The risk that minors could bypass restrictions and access sexually explicit conversations was also highlighted.

One expert suggested that, without substantial changes, ChatGPT could turn into a "sexy suicide coach" for users prone to developing intense bonds with companion bots. The main concern is that the combination of intimate interaction and emotional vulnerability could have dangerous consequences.
