Epoch Biodesign, based in London, has closed a $12 million strategic funding round to scale up nylon recycling. The company is developing an enzymatic recycling technology that aims to transform nylon 6,6 waste into reusable resources.
Enzymatic Recycling Technology
Epoch Biodesign's process breaks down used garments and other nylon-based materials into their original chemical components, such as adipic acid and HMDA. These components can then be reused to produce new, virgin-quality polymers and yarn. The technology is designed to process complex materials, including blended textiles, coated fibers, and mixed plastics, addressing waste streams that are difficult to recycle with traditional methods.
Goals and Partnerships
By working with existing yarn producers, Epoch aims to provide a solution that allows brands and manufacturers to improve supply chain sustainability without changing suppliers. The new funds will be used to expand global commercialization efforts and deepen partnerships in sectors such as apparel and automotive.
For those evaluating on-premise deployment of similar solutions, there are trade-offs to consider. AI-RADAR offers analytical frameworks on /llm-onpremise to evaluate these aspects.
