MediaTek has provided a preview of the technologies it will present at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026.
Focus on connectivity and AI
The Taiwanese company aims to define the future of connectivity with the next generations of wireless standards. In addition to 6G, which promises drastically improved speeds and latency, MediaTek is also working on Wi-Fi 8, the successor to the current Wi-Fi 7. Another pillar of MediaTek's strategy is artificial intelligence, with a particular focus on the use of chiplets and the UCIe (Universal Chiplet Interconnect Express) interconnect to create more flexible and scalable hardware solutions.
Implications for the future
These technologies, if successfully implemented, could have a significant impact on various sectors, from mobile communications to automotive, to edge computing and data centers. The adoption of open standards such as UCIe could foster innovation and competition in the AI chip market.
