Meta has acquired Moltbook, a platform that defines itself as a "social network" for artificial intelligence agents. The announcement was made by Meta Superintelligence Labs.

Moltbook had become known, among other things, for a rather permissive security management. In particular, an inadequately protected database allowed anyone with minimal technical knowledge to impersonate AI agents.

The platform was developed almost entirely by an AI assistant, which may have contributed to the security problems encountered. It remains to be seen how Meta intends to integrate Moltbook's technology and team within its artificial intelligence research division.
