Proposal for the future of MySQL
A group of MySQL users and developers has launched an initiative to create an independent foundation to oversee the future development of the open source database. The proposal has been formally presented to Oracle, the current owner of MySQL.
The main goal of the foundation would be to ensure more transparent and community-driven management of the MySQL project. This approach aims to balance Oracle's commercial interests with the needs and contributions of the open source community that depends on the database.
The creation of an independent foundation could foster greater innovation and broader community involvement in the development of MySQL. It remains to be seen whether Oracle will agree to participate in this initiative.
