Reddit is implementing a verification system for accounts exhibiting suspicious activity, with the goal of confirming they are controlled by human users.

Reddit CEO Steve Huffman announced that verification will be required for accounts exhibiting automated or otherwise anomalous behavior. The goal is to counter the increase in unwanted bots, especially in an era where AI-based bots could become increasingly pervasive.

Main Objective

"As AI becomes a bigger part of the Internet, we want to make sure that when you’re on Reddit, you know when you’re talking to a person and when you’re not," Huffman said.

The verification will only be applied in cases of suspected automated activity and, according to Huffman, will only affect a minority of users. Accounts that fail verification may be restricted.
