Starlink changes orbit for safety reasons
According to Chinese researchers, Starlink reduced the altitude of a considerable portion of its satellite constellation due to a near-miss incident with a Chinese satellite launch in December 2025.
It is estimated that over 4,000 satellites were moved to an orbit of approximately 300 miles (480 km) to increase operational safety in space.
Background
Space traffic management and collision avoidance have become growing priorities as the number of satellites in orbit increases. Incidents like this highlight the need for greater international cooperation and more stringent protocols for space management.
