Taiwan accelerates offshore wind power

Taiwan has announced the restart of its offshore wind expansion program, marking a change of pace in its energy strategy. The central element of this new phase is the planned demonstration of floating wind turbines in 2026.

The initiative aims to strengthen the island's energy security and diversify its energy mix, reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels. Offshore wind power, particularly with floating turbines, represents a promising technological frontier for the exploitation of renewable energy resources in areas with deep seabeds.

This 2026 demonstration project will serve as a test bed to assess the feasibility and effectiveness of floating turbines in real operating conditions, paving the way for future large-scale installations.
