Wikifarmer, a B2B platform that uses artificial intelligence to connect food companies and agricultural producers, has announced a $7.7 million funding round. The investment was led by Brighteye Ventures and Piraeus Bank, with participation from previous investors Point Nine Capital and Metavallon VC, bringing the company's total funding to approximately $18 million.

Wikifarmer, which started as a kind of "Wikipedia of Farming," a free agricultural knowledge platform with over 12 million users in 17 languages, is evolving into a comprehensive platform to support the entire lifecycle of agricultural trade. This includes price management, negotiations, logistics, payments, and financing.

AI at the heart of the strategy

The company aims to create a true operating system for agricultural trade, combining data, analytics, and transactional tools. Artificial intelligence is integrated into several areas of the platform, including:

  • Price intelligence and market forecasting: based on commodity data and seasonal trends.
  • Automated matching: between buyers and verified suppliers, based on product specifications and certifications.
  • Transaction management tools: support for quotation requests, offer comparisons, documentation, credit risk assessment, and trade execution.

FarmClick: the partnership with Piraeus Bank

Piraeus Bank's participation represents a strategic partnership. Together with Wikifarmer, the bank launched FarmClick, a digital marketplace for agricultural inputs and services in Greece, with the aim of facilitating farmers' access to financial and operational resources.

The funding obtained will be used to expand the AI-based trading platform, expand the producer network in regions such as Latin America and Africa, and launch FarmClick in Greece.
