Power Estimates for AMD Ryzen AI on Linux
Upcoming updates to the Linux 7.1 kernel will bring an interesting feature for those using AMD's Ryzen AI NPUs (Neural Processing Unit). The drm-misc-next patches include improvements to the AMDXDNA driver, which manages the AI accelerator integrated into these CPUs.
The most relevant feature is the ability to obtain estimates of the NPU's power consumption. This data, previously unavailable, will allow developers and users to monitor the energy efficiency of AI workloads and optimize performance based on their needs.
In addition to this feature, other minor changes to the Direct Rendering Manager (DRM) are also planned, which contribute to improving the overall stability and performance of the graphics system.
