Magnific: A New Identity for Creative AI
Freepik, founded in Málaga in 2010 as a search engine for graphic resources, has announced its rebranding to Magnific. This new identity marks the company's transformation into an integrated AI creative platform, positioning itself in a rapidly evolving industry. Magnific's launch comes with an annual recurring revenue (ARR) of $200 million and over one million paid subscribers. The company already serves more than 250 enterprise clients, including creative teams from entities like BBC, DeliveryHero, Guess, Mayoral, Huel, R/GA, Damm, and Job&Talent, who use the platform for their professional generative AI workflows.
The acquisition of Magnific (the AI image upscaler) by Freepik in May 2024 played a key role in this evolution. Andreessen Horowitz had previously recognized Magnific as Europe's leading generative AI web company by users, directly competing with American AI platforms despite not having a massive capital base. The rebranding aims to present the company's full offering cohesively, overcoming the fragmented perception that saw Freepik as a stock provider and Magnific as a mere upscaler.
The Rise of the “No-Collar Economy”
Magnific's relaunch reflects a broader shift in the creative landscape: the move from fragmented tools to integrated creative infrastructure, and from traditional roles to what CEO Joaquín Cuenca describes as the “no-collar economy.” According to Cuenca, if the industrial revolution created “blue-collar” jobs and the digital revolution created “white-collar” jobs, AI is giving rise to a new category where creatives will gain unexpected power. This vision counters the narrative that AI destroys jobs, suggesting instead that, much like how the digital revolution multiplied accountants by allowing them to tackle more complex tasks, AI will empower creatives, making them more effective and productive.
This transformation is already evident: 72% of new creators joining the platform identify as beginners. This indicates a significant reduction in the cost and complexity associated with creating high-quality content. What historically required a studio, a team, and significant capital can now increasingly be accomplished by individuals with the right tools. Cuenca envisions a future where filmmaking will be similar to writing books: one person with a vision and the tools to execute it.
From Experimentation to Enterprise Production
Enterprise teams are no longer merely experimenting with AI creative tools; they are actively integrating them into their campaigns. Companies like BBC, DeliveryHero, Huel, R/GA, Damm, and Job&Talent are among the 250+ teams using Magnific for production workflows, from generating assets and visual prototypes to scaling content across various campaigns and markets. The company's Business plan, launched in January 2026 for smaller teams, surpassed 2,000 subscriptions in six weeks, with a growth of 150 new teams per week.
This scenario highlights how companies are integrating AI into their creative processes, a trend that for other types of AI workloads, especially those requiring high data sovereignty, control over Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), or air-gapped environments, drives exploration towards on-premise or hybrid deployment solutions. For those evaluating these trade-offs, AI-RADAR offers analytical frameworks on /llm-onpremise to support informed decisions, balancing performance, security, and costs.
An Integrated Creative Ecosystem
Magnific's relaunch consolidates previously distinct capabilities—including image generation, video, upscaling, audio, and collaboration—into a single production environment. The platform offers a comprehensive, end-to-end creative stack, which includes market-leading image and video models (even in 4K with audio), industry-leading AI upscaling technology, a real-time collaborative workspace used daily by tens of thousands of creators, exclusive 3D and virtual scene tools, and a vast library of over 250 million creative assets. This integration aims to simplify and accelerate the creative process, making AI an indispensable tool for professionals and beginners alike.
