## Orbem Focuses on AI for Biological Analysis Orbem, a Munich-based deeptech company, has announced the closing of a โ‚ฌ55.5 million Series B financing round. The investment is led by Innovation Industries, with participation from Supernova Invest and support from previous backers, including General Catalyst and 83North. The company applies artificial intelligence to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to analyse food and biological systems. Orbem's platform generates actionable insights for decision-making in various sectors, including agriculture, food production, and healthcare. ## Solutions for the Poultry and Agri-food Industry Orbem's technology provides previously unavailable information on an industrial scale, such as determining the sex of embryos in poultry or assessing product quality without destructive testing. The flagship product, Genus Focus, uses AI-enabled MRI to determine the sex of eggs in under one second, avoiding the culling of male chicks. Orbem has also introduced Genus Scale, a solution to assess the fertilisation status of eggs before incubation, reducing inefficiencies. ## Expansion in the United States and New Sectors The new funds will be used for Orbem's expansion into the United States, to expand solutions for the poultry sector, and to enter the fruit and vegetable market with non-destructive quality analysis. The company will also continue to develop healthcare applications based on large-scale biological data. Medical imaging technologies, such as magnetic resonance imaging, are increasingly widespread in various fields, thanks to their ability to provide detailed and non-invasive information. Integration with artificial intelligence opens new frontiers in data analysis and process automation.
