Western Digital's HAMR Project Approved in Thailand
The Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) has approved a Western Digital (WD) project focused on the development of hard disk drives (HDDs) that utilize Heat-Assisted Magnetic Recording (HAMR) technology. This approval represents a step forward for innovation in the storage industry.
HAMR technology enables higher recording densities compared to conventional technologies. This translates into hard drives with greater storage capacity, a fundamental aspect for managing the increasing amount of data generated globally. HAMR disks use heat to reduce the coercivity of the magnetic material during data writing, allowing more information to be stored on a smaller surface.
