AIRMO, a startup based in Berlin and Luxembourg specializing in space-based greenhouse gas monitoring, has announced a €5 million seed funding round.

Technology

The company is developing a micro-LiDAR and SWIR imager technology compact enough to be installed on a nanosatellite. AIRMO claims that the system will be able to detect methane leaks as small as those from a car directly from Earth's orbit. The launch of the satellites is scheduled for 2027.

Environmental Monitoring

Monitoring methane emissions is crucial in the fight against climate change, as this gas has a global warming potential significantly higher than that of CO2 in a short-term time horizon. The ability to accurately identify and quantify methane emissions is essential to target interventions and assess the effectiveness of mitigation policies.
