Anthropic has announced that its Claude chatbot will remain ad-free, in stark contrast to OpenAI's strategy, which has begun testing advertisements in a low-cost tier of ChatGPT.

The company justified its choice with a blog post, stating that "there are many good places for advertising, but a conversation with Claude is not one of them." Anthropic believes that including advertisements in interactions with artificial intelligence would be "incompatible" with its vision of Claude as a helpful assistant for work and deep thinking.

Anthropic's position contrasts with OpenAI's January announcement, in which it communicated its intention to test banner ads for free users and ChatGPT Go subscribers in the United States. OpenAI specified that the ads would appear at the bottom of the responses and would not influence the content of the chatbot's answers. Subscribers to the Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise plans will not see advertisements on ChatGPT.
