Tariff Investigation and BYD's Response

BYD has denied using its electric vehicle plant in Thailand to evade tariffs imposed by the United States. The statement comes in response to an investigation aimed at assessing excess production capacity in China, the European Union, and ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations).

The investigation also focuses on the potential transfer of final assembly activities to Southeast Asia, a move that could be interpreted as an attempt to circumvent US customs duties. BYD, however, has categorically rejected these accusations.

General Context

Trade tensions between the United States and China, particularly in the automotive and technology sectors, are on the rise. Investigations into trade practices and potential tariff evasion mechanisms have become increasingly frequent. These dynamics influence production localization decisions and export strategies of the companies involved.
