French foodtech startup Verley has announced the closing of a €32 million Series A financing round, just four years after its inception.
Functional Whey Proteins
The company specializes in the development of functional whey protein ingredients, specifically beta-lactoglobulin (BLG), designed to meet the nutritional and functional needs of food manufacturers. Verley's approach integrates into existing food value chains, responding to industrial and market requirements.
Verley's ingredients, produced through precision fermentation, use a fraction of the natural resources required by conventional production, addressing the growing demand for reduced-impact products. The portfolio, marketed under the FermWhey™ brand, offers functionalized whey proteins for high-protein yogurts and protein shots, combining high purity, solubility, emulsification, and gelling properties.
Expansion and Future
The funds raised will primarily be used to support Verley's entry into the US market, increase production capacity, and further investments in research and development. The company plans to expand into Europe and the Middle East after the US launch.
Stéphane Mac Millan, CEO and co-founder of Verley, stated that the company's mission is to address the growing global demand for high-quality nutrition while preserving the planet's natural resources.
