Epoch Biodesign, a London-based startup, has announced the closing of a $12 million funding round. The goal is to demonstrate the large-scale feasibility of its nylon recycling technology.
Enzymatic Recycling Technology
The company uses AI-engineered enzymes to break down nylon 6,6 waste. This material, widely used in products such as leggings, airbags, and carpets, is returned to its constituent monomers. The process allows for the recovery of over 90% of the material, significantly reducing the need to use raw materials derived from petroleum.
Funding and Prospects
With this new round, Epoch Biodesign's total funding exceeds $50 million. The company aims to revolutionize nylon recycling, offering a more sustainable and efficient solution compared to traditional methods.
