Openreach, the BT subsidiary that operates the UK's largest broadband network, is expanding its collaboration with Google Cloud to optimize the planning of its full-fibre network rollout.

Digital Twin and AI

The company has built a digital twin of the UK's transport and broadband infrastructure on Vertex AI. This virtual model allows Openreach to simulate and analyze different deployment scenarios, identifying the most efficient routes and minimizing potential obstacles.

Gemini Enterprise for Engineering Efficiency

Openreach is also employing Gemini Enterprise, Google's generative AI platform, to automate and improve engineering design processes. The goal is to reduce operating costs and accelerate the implementation time of the full-fibre network. The company estimates a reduction in engineering costs of more than half thanks to the adoption of these technologies.
